Class of drug
- 3rd generation dihydropyridine calcium-channel blocker.
Action
- Blocks calcium channel function - particularly in the peripheral vasculature.
Indications
- Treatment of systemic hypertension
in cats.
Routes of administration
- Oral: 5 mg, 10 mg tablets.

- 0.625-1.25 mg/cat PO SID.

Pregnancy
- Avoid use during pregnancy.
Pathological variations
Cardiac insufficiency
- Do not use in presence of cardiogenic shock.
Renal insufficiency
- Appears to be safe even with concurrent renal failure.
Hepatic insufficiency
- Reduce dose if reduced hepatic function.
Contra-indications
- No adverse effects reported in cats at recommended dose rate.
Interactions
with other drugs
- Little information in cats.
- Hepatic metabolism may be impaired by other drugs eg cimetidine
.
- Risk of hypotension if combined with other antihypertensive agents eg ACE inhibitors
.
